Elections to the Legislative Council in Kenya 1961
The 1961 elections to the Legislative Council in Kenya were held in February 1961 in what was then the British Crown Colony of Kenya . The later governing party of independent Kenya, the Kenya African National Union under Jomo Kenyatta , won an absolute majority of the seats in the Legislative Council . In addition to the 33 seats available for election, 20 council seats were reserved for minorities, ten of them for whites, eight for the Indian and two for the Arab minority in the country. 12 other council members were not elected, but determined, so that the council had a total of 65 members.
