Dita Parlo
Dita Parlo (actually Gerda Olga Justine Kornstädt ; born September 4, 1908 in Stettin ; † December 13, 1971 in Paris ) was a German film actress .
Life
Dita Parlo took ballet lessons in her youth and then studied at the UFA drama school. In early 1928 she was hired by Erich Pommer for the UFA and played her first small film role in Secrets of the Orient . Her first leading role followed in Heimkehr , after which she starred alongside Willy Fritsch in Hungarian Rhapsody and in Melody of the Heart , the UFA's first sound film .
After her success in Germany, Parlo went to Hollywood in 1930 , where she first appeared in German versions of American films and later, with moderate success, in English-language productions such as Honor of the Family (1931) and Mr. Broadway (1933). In 1933 the actress returned to Europe, first living in Switzerland and shortly afterwards in France, where she married the Frenchman Franck Gueutal (1904–1983). In France she starred in two outstanding films that are still among the highlights of early French cinema: in L'Atalante (1934) directed by Jean Vigo and alongside Jean Gabin in Jean Renoir's masterpiece The Great Illusion ( 1937).
Shortly after the outbreak of World War II , Dita Parlo was expelled to Germany, which meant the abrupt end of her career. After the war she returned to France, but only appeared in a few films.
In 1992, more than 20 years after her death, the pop singer took Madonna Parlo as inspiration and named her alter ego in the scandal book SEX and in the song Erotica Dita. Also Dita Von Teese Parlos name used as a tribute to her stage name .
