Parodia horstii is a species of Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors Leopoldo Horst (1918–1987), who wasborn in Germany and whocollected and exported cacti in Brazil.

Parodia horstii grows individually or occasionally in groups. The green shoots are spherical to cylindrical in shape. They grow up to 30 centimeters high and 14 centimeters in diameter. They have a white wooly, thorny part. The 12 to 19  ribs are clearly provided with small, blunt cusps separated by narrow notches. The areoles present in the notches are circular and white. The 1 to 6  central spines are straight to curved or twisted. They are 1 to 3 inches long, needle-like and yellow to brown. The 10 to 15 radial spines, on the other hand, are rather fine and 0.6 to 3 centimeters long. They are also needle-like, straight or curved, and white to light brown.

The flowers appear near the apex. They are yellowish orange to reddish or purple in color and are 3 to 3.5 inches long and 3 inches in diameter. The pericarpel is covered with scales and thick white wool and also bristles. The scar is light to orange-red, sometimes light yellow. The spherical to barrel-shaped fruits are covered with wool. They are up to 1 cm long and tear open when ripe. They contain matt black, somewhat humped seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Parodia horstii is common in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul .

It was first described in 1966 as Notocactus horstii by Friedrich Ritter . Nigel Paul Taylor introduced the art to Parodia in 1987 . Synonyms are Wigginsia nothohorstii Doweld (2000) and Notocactus katharinae van Vliet (2002).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
