Parral , formerly known as San José de Parral and now officially called Hidalgo del Parral , is a city in the Mexican state of Chihuahua with a population of over 100,000 and the seat of the Municipio Hidalgo del Parral .
history
Parral was founded in 1631 by Juan Rangel de Biesma. Silver mining was carried out there around 1631. When there was no more silver, most of the citizens left the city. On July 20, 1923, popular hero Pancho Villa was murdered and buried in Parral. Every year in July, the so-called Jornadas Villistas are held in his honor .
