Parsegh Bedros IV. Avkadian OAM , also Basilus Petrus IV. Avkadian, Armenian : Բարսեղ Պետրոս Դ. Աւգատեան, (*?; † February 6, 1788 ) was the fourth Armenian Catholic Patriarch of Cilicia . He was elected on December 1, 1780 and confirmed in office on February 6, 1781. He went down in the history of the Armenian Catholic Church as a very spiritual patriarch.
Life
Parsegh Avkadian came from Aleppo, Syria and was a religious priest of the Armenian Antonians . The priest Avkadian served in the Patriarchate of the first three Patriarchs of Cilicia and achieved a high reputation in those nearly forty years. As the bishop and later patriarch of Cilicia, he is said to have worn his monk's clothing all the time. During his tenure he wrote ten comprehensive constitutions - similar to an Apostolic Constitution , in which he regulated the relationship between the patriarch and his bishops.
