Krikor Bedros V. Kupelian
Krikor Bedros V. Kupelian ICBP , also Gregor Petrus V. Kupelian, ( Armenian Գրիգոր Պետրոս Ե. Քիւբելեան ; * 1738 ; † June 17, 1812 in Bzommar ) was the fifth Armenian Catholic Patriarch of Cilicia . He founded the first seminary for the formation of priests in the Armenian Catholic Church.
Life
Krikor Kupelian was a religious priest of the Patriarchal Congregation of Bzommar (ICBP). He was prefect of the former Adana Prefecture , now the titular diocese of Adana degli Armeni . Kupelian was elected Patriarch of Cilicia on May 11, 1788 and on September 15, 1788 by Pope Pius VI. (1775–1799) confirmed in office. The spiritual workers in the area of the Patriarchate of Cilicia were priests , missionaries , spiritual teachers, deacons, and married priests. Each group had its own and different training. Patriarch Bedros V therefore decided to centralize and unify the training of priests. Its aim was to create a common level of education for the clergy of the Armenian Catholic Church.
Establishment of a seminary
With the financial support of some wealthy Armenians, he managed to build a seminary between 1797 and 1810. Bedros V laid down the corresponding rules and regulations for the formation of priests in a rule book. During his term of office, the number of members of the order grew to 52 monks , including four bishops , four preachers , ten priests and several friars .
