Pasi Puistola (born September 16, 1978 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who was active in the top Finnish league with Tappara Tampere , Ilves Tampere , Ässät Pori and the Pelicans . In the Continental Hockey League he played for Severstal Tscherepowez and HK Donbass Donetsk and five years for HV71 in the Elitserien . The greatest success of his career was winning the gold medal at the Men's Ice Hockey World Championship in 2011 .
Career
Pasi Puistola began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Ilves Tampere , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 1997/98 season . In this he and his team immediately became runner-up. The defender himself was able to convince with 18 points, four of which were goals, in a total of 57 games and received the Jarmo Wasama commemorative trophy as rookie of the year . After he had started the 2000/01 season at Ilves, he moved within the league to Ässät Pori . At the end of the season he returned to his hometown Tampere, but there signed a contract with Ilves' city neighbor Tappara Tampere . With his new team he was also runner- up in 2002 , before he won the Finnish championship title with Tappara for the first time in the 2002/03 season.
After Puistola had continuously improved at Tappara, he switched to the HV71 in the Swedish Elitserien for the 2006/07 season . There he was also successful with his team and was Swedish champion with the team from Jönköping in the 2007/08 and 2009/10 seasons . In addition, he was runner- up in 2009 with the HV71. For the 2010/11 season he was appointed assistant captain of HV71. After winning the world title with Finland, he was committed for the 2011/12 season by Severstal Tscherepowez from the Continental Hockey League .
In May 2012 he received a contract with KHL newcomer HK Donbass Donetsk , for which he completed 23 KHL games before he was signed by Tappara Tampere in July 2013. With Tappara he was again Finnish runner-up in 2014, before he was awarded to KalPa Kuopio after mixed performances in the 2014/15 season . In October 2015 it was loaned to the second division LeKi before it was given to the Pelicans in February 2016 . He ended his career after the 2016/17 season.
International
For Finland , Puistola took part in the junior division of the 1998 U20 World Junior Championship , where he and his team won the gold medal. In the senior sector he was in his country's squad for the Euro Hockey Tour in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 and took part in the 2010 and 2011 World Championships . At the 2011 World Cup, he and his team were world champions.
