Pat Sullivan (wrestler)

Pat Sullivan (* 1962 ) is a retired Canadian wrestler .

Career

Pat (Patrick) Sullivan began wrestling as a teenager in high school. He was only active in free style. After high school, he attended Concordia University in Calgary , where he received intensive support in his sport.

In 1980 he took part in the Junior World Championships (Juniors) in Colorado Springs and came in the weight class up to 68 kg body weight in 5th place. At the Junior World Championships in Vancouver in 1981 , he took the same place in featherweight.

In 1983 he qualified in Canada for participation in the Pan American Games in Caracas . He took an excellent 3rd place in the lightweight behind Raul Cascaret Fonseca from Cuba and Lenny Zalesky from the United States.

1984 Pat Sullivan failed in Canada in the Olympic elimination (Trials) to David McKay and could therefore not take part in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . In 1985 he qualified for the World Championships in Budapest . There he achieved the greatest success of his wrestling career, because he took 3rd place in the lightweight behind Arsen Fadsajew from the USSR and Bujandelgeriin Bold from Mongolia . In the battle for this bronze medal, he defeated Simeon Schterew from Bulgaria .

In the next few years he failed in Canada in the fight for the starting place at the World Championships and the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul always to David McKay. But he was used in the lightweight Pan American Games in Indianapolis in 1987 and won 3rd place behind Andre Metzger from the United States and Eugenio Montero from Cuba.

In 1987 he achieved success at the Commonwealth Championships in Nicosia . In the lightweight he won there before Wayne Wrathall from New Zealand and Chris Mackay from Scotland .

At the end of 1988, Pat Sullivan ended his international wrestling career.
