The Paterson River is a river in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales .

geography

It rises in Barrington Tops National Park , flows south and flows into the Hunter River between Hinton and Mopeth . Between Hinton and Duns Creek , it forms the border between the Local Government Areas Port Stephens Council and Maitland City .

The river winds through fertile farmland in the Paterson Valley. The Lake Lostock was 48 km below the source in 1971. The New South Wales Department of Water Resources had him to land irrigation in the Barrington Tops build.

Surname

Colonel William Paterson surveyed the area along the river in 1801. Later, Governor King named the river in his honor.
