Patricia Adam
Patricia Adam (born April 15, 1953 in Saint-Cloud ) is a French politician of the Parti socialiste . She was a member of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2017 .
Adam began her professional career as a social worker in the Paris suburbs . Since then she has also been active in politics as a representative of the interests of families.
In the 1980s, Adam moved to Brest , where she joined a left-wing list in 1989 around Pierre Maille , who was elected mayor in the same year. In the following years Adam was a councilor in Brest and deputy mayor, and in 1995 she became deputy mayor of the canton of Brest-Saint-Marc .
In 1998 Adam rose to become Vice-President of the General Council of Finistère for Social Affairs (since 2015: Départementrat ), which position she held until 2008. In 2002 Adam ran for the second constituency of Finistère in the parliamentary elections and achieved 52.71 percent of the valid votes in the second ballot. As a member of parliament, Adam campaigned for the interests of the region, such as oceanography and the handling of agriculture , while at the same time positioning herself in questions of family and children's rights and national defense. She was a member of the National Defense and Armed Forces Committee .
In the 2007 parliamentary elections , Adam was re-elected with 55.51 percent of the valid votes in the second ballot. In 2008 she was involved in the drafting of a White Paper on the State of National Security. In November 2009 Adam succeeded Christophe Béchu as head of the Groupement d'intérêt public (GIP) Enfance en Danger , an institution founded in 2004 responsible for child protection in France and operating an emergency number.
In the parliamentary elections in 2012 , Adam was re-confirmed in office with 66.84 percent of the valid votes in the second ballot. She was then elected by the National Assembly to chair the Committee on National Defense and Armed Forces . As the first woman in this post, she has always advocated an increase in the defense budget, in particular through her participation in the committee responsible for drafting the 2013 White Paper. In response to their demands, the defense budget was increased in 2015.
In the 2017 parliamentary elections , Adam missed the runoff election with 14.10 percent of the valid votes in the first ballot, instead Jean-Jacques Bridey entered the National Assembly. Adam's tenure as a MP ended June 20, 2017.
