Patrick Cowley
Patrick Joseph Cowley (* 19th October 1950 in Buffalo in the US state of New York ; † 12. November 1982 in San Francisco , California , USA) was a disco - and Hi-NRG -Dancemusik-composer-musician. In the same breath as Giorgio Moroder , Cowley is celebrated as one of the pioneers of electronic dance music .
Career
Cowley went to San Francisco in 1971 and studied the synthesizer there intensively . He worked as a lighting technician in the City Disco . There he met Sylvester , who was performing in the disco. They began a collaboration, and Cowley's aggressive synthesizer style was quickly linked to Sylvester's songs. Her fan base in the club dance scene reacted enthusiastically to hits like "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" , "Dance (Disco Heat)" , and her most successful single in the US "Do Ya Wanna Funk" .
Under his own name, Cowley had the hits "Menergy" (1981), a frank homage to the gay club scene, and "Megatron Man" . He also wrote and produced the dance single "Right on Target" for singer Paul Parker , which reached # 1 on the Hot Dance Music / Club Play charts. Cowley also produced a 15-minute remix of Donna Summer 's "I Feel Love," which is now a collector's item. Frank Loverde, he also in the City met, he dedicated the song Die Hard Lover , this was by Linda Imperial with the group Loverde gecovert . The version known in discotheques (fast cha-cha-cha rhythm, yellow cover ) was then also published under Patrick Cowley and Loverde (1982).
Cowley composed his last album "Mind Warp" at a time when his HIV infection had already spread to a full clinical picture; the album's songs reflect his increasing distance from conventional reality as the disease progressed. An album recorded with Indoor Life singer Jorge Socarras was only released in 2009. Bands like the Pet Shop Boys and New Order name Cowley's style as a major influence on their music. Patrick Cowley died in November 1982 of complications from his AIDS illness.
