Pat Haggerty

Patrick Eugene Haggerty (born March 17, 1914 in Harvey , North Dakota , † October 1, 1980 in Dallas ) was an American manager. Haggerty was a co-founder and chairman of the board of directors of Texas Instruments from 1958 to 1976 .

biography

Haggerty was born on March 17, 1914 to Michael Eugene and Lillian (Evenson) Haggerty. He was married and had five children. As a teenager, he built an award-winning radio, ran his own radio show, and was one of the first amateur radio operators in North Dakota. From 1931 to 1936 he attended the private, Catholic Marquette University in Milwaukee , from which he graduated with the distinction " summa cum laude ". In addition to his studies, he already had a part-time position at the “Badger Carton Company”, where he was taken on as production manager after completing his studies. In the following year, he was given responsibility for all administrative, engineering and manufacturing functions. During the Second World War Haggerty served in the United States Naval Reserve of the United States Navy , in the "Bureau of Aeronautics". There he was responsible for the entire procurement and production of electronic devices for the naval aviation and rose to the rank of lieutenant.

From 1945 he worked for the "Geophysical Service Incorporated" (GSI) in Dallas as general manager; a company that uses new technologies. The GSI became Texas Instruments Incorporated in 1951 . Haggerty initially became Vice President and was President of the company from 1958 to 1980. Under his leadership, the technology manufacturer's annual sales grew from approximately $ 3 million to nearly $ 1.4 billion in 1975.

Haggerty was married to Beatrice "Menne" Haggerty (1913-2003) and had several children.

Haggerty and his wife Beatrice donated some of their property to found the Patrick and Beatrice Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University.
