Patrick Holland (politician)

Patrick J. Holland (* around 1934 ; † August 27, 1986 ) was a Maltese politician of the Partit Laburista (PL), who was a member of the House of Representatives and a minister.

Life

After attending school in 1951, Patrick J. Holland began studying law at the Royal University of Malta , where Edward Fenech Adami was one of his fellow students. He joined the Labor Party PL ( Partit Laburista ) and was president of their youth organization LYL (Labor Youth League) for eight years . In 1958 he completed his studies with a doctorate in law (LL.D.) and was temporarily treasurer and general secretary of the PL for two years. In the parliamentary election on February 17, 1962 , Moran became a member of the House of Representatives for the PL in constituency 7 for the first time (Kamra Tad-Deputati) and re-elected in the election on March 31, 1966 and in the election on June 17, 1971 in this constituency. He was also between April 24, 1967 and May 10, 1971, as representative of Malta, a deputy member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe .

After the Labor Party won this election, Holland was appointed to the Mintoff II cabinet on June 21, 1971 , where he assumed the post of junior minister to Prime Minister Dom Mintoff and, on August 28, 1971, as parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works (Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Public Building and Works) . In the course of a cabinet reshuffle, he took over on September 30, 1974 the post of Minister of Housing and Lands (Minister of Housing and Lands) and held this until September 25, 1976. When he was re-elected in the election on September 24, 1976 , he was now elected in constituency 9 and on September 25, 1976 in the Mintoff III cabinet, first Minister of Trade . After a cabinet reshuffle, he took over the offices of Minister of Trade, Industry, Parastatal and People's Industries on October 17, 1978, and held this office until December 20, 1981.

Patrick Holland was again a member of the Kamra Tad-Deputati in the election on December 18, 1981 for the Labor Party , where he was now elected in constituency 10. After the election he took over from December 20, 1981 until his resignation for health reasons in August 1983 in the Mintoff IV cabinet, the office of Minister for Parastatal and People's Investments (Minister of Parastatal and People's Investments) . His successor was then Joe Debono Grech until the formation of the Mintoff V cabinet on September 3, 1983 . After his death on August 27, 1986, Joseph M. Baldacchino moved up as a member of the House of Representatives.
