Patrick Ollier (born December 17, 1944 in Périgueux , Dordogne ) is a French politician of the Union pour un mouvement populaire (UMP), former President of the National Assembly and former Minister Associate in the third government of François Fillon .

Life

After attending school, Ollier studied economics and sociology at the Institut d'études politiques in Aix-en-Provence and was involved in politics as the founder of the Gaullist student movements Action Étudiante Gaulliste and Union des Jeunes pour le Progrès (UJP).

After completing his studies, he began his professional career as an economist in the civil service and in 1969 initially worked in the cabinet of Jacques Baumel , the then State Secretary for Communication. He was then an advisor to Prime Minister Jacques Chaban-Delmas and Pierre Messmer between 1969 and 1973 .

He was then from 1973 to 1974 Technical Advisor to Minister of Labor Georges Gorse , before he held this position on the staff of Paul Dijoud , State Secretary for Regional Planning, until 1977 . Between 1977 and 1981 he acted as advisor to Justice Minister and Keeper of the Seal Alain Peyrefitte .

In 1981, he moved for a few years in the private sector as advisor to the CEO of the company Beghin-Say , however, came in 1986 back into the civil service as a political and parliamentary adviser of the now President of the National Assembly Jacques Chaban-Delmas.

In 1988 he was elected for the first time as a member of the National Assembly and, after being re-elected in 1993 and 1997, he represented the Hautes-Alpes department until 2002. During this time, Ollier was also Vice-President of the National Assembly between 1998 and 2002.

In the 2002 elections he was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly for the Hauts-de-Seine department and was also chairman of the Committee on Economy, Environment and Territorial Affairs during the twelfth legislative period . On June 18, 2004, he also succeeded Jacques Baumel as Mayor of Rueil-Malmaison .

He was also President of the National Assembly at the end of the twelfth legislative period from March 7 to June 19, 2007.

After he was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly in the parliamentary elections on June 10, 2007, he then took over the office of chairman of the Committee on Economy, Environment and Territorial Affairs again in the 13th legislative period.

Patrick Ollier was finally appointed Minister Associate Minister for Relations with Parliament in the Prime Minister's Office on November 14, 2010 by Prime Minister François Fillon. He resigned from office when the government resigned after the 2012 presidential election .

He is the partner of former Foreign Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie .
