Paul Ledoux (painter)

Paul-Eugène Ledoux (born November 18, 1884 in Illkirch-Graffenstaden , † September 17, 1960 in Cannes ) was an Alsatian German - French painter , engraver and illustrator .

Life

Ledoux studied art from 1899 at the 1899 School of Applied Arts in Strasbourg , from 1902 with Fernand Cormon at the l'école des Beaux-Arts in Paris and from 1905 at the Art Academy in Munich with Ludwig von Löfftz and Angelo Jank .

In 1909 Ledoux left Munich to study again in Paris with Jambon and Bailly. In 1914, when the First World War broke out, Ledoux was living in Paris. He joined the French army, becoming a French citizen (previously he was German). As a soldier he was given the name Jean Fauconnier and was deployed in the Argonne ; he recorded his observations in a notebook. In addition to his engagement as a soldier, Ledoux worked as an interpreter, worked for the wiretapping service and later on interrogations with German prisoners.

Paul Ledoux had two brothers, a wife and a son.

The municipality of Rosheim dedicated an exhibition to the painter in 2018.
