The women's 200-meter run at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was held on September 8 and 9, 1982 in the Olympic Stadium in Athens .

With gold and bronze, the GDR sprinters won two medals in this competition. The European champion was the 1976 and 1980 Olympic champion Bärbel Wöckel , who had finished second over 100 meters two days earlier . British rider Kathy Smallwood , later Kathy Cook , took second place . Bronze went to Sabine Rieger , later successful as Sabine Günther.

Record improvement

European champion Bärbel Wöckel improved the existing championship record in the final on September 9th by 47 hundredths of a second to 22.04 s. Germany Democratic Republic 1949GDR 

Preliminary round

September 8, 1982

The preliminary round was held in two runs. With sixteen runners, the number of participants was so small that no intermediate round was necessary. From the preliminary runs it went straight to the final, for which the first four athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - qualified.
