Paul Apovnik (born June 28, 1935 in Schattenberg , Carinthia ) is an Austrian Carinthian Slovenian lawyer , journalist and lexicographer .

Life

Paul Apovnik comes from a Carinthian Slovenian family in Schattenberg / Senčni kraj in the former municipality of Loibach, today the municipality of Bleiburg / Pliberk. The bitter experiences in the Bleiburg primary school in the war years 1941 to 1945, when teachers and school children were strictly forbidden to use the Slovene language, shaped his life and work for the forbidden Slovene language.

1947–1955 attended the federal high school in Tanzenberg and the federal high school in Klagenfurt, 1955–1960 studied law at the University of Vienna with subsequent legal practice in Klagenfurt, 1961 admitted to the administrative service of the state of Carinthia, worked in the district authorities Villach, Wolfsberg and Völkermarkt, 1964– 1973 deputy to the district captain in Völkermarkt, 1974–1994 in the office of the Carinthian provincial government, most recently as head of the ethnic group office for the Slovenian ethnic group.

Public work

After completing his studies, Paul Apovnik initially worked on a voluntary basis in the political representative organizations of the Carinthian Slovenes . In 1975 he stood as the top candidate of the Enotna lista in the state elections. The achieved number of votes of 6,130 was not enough for a state parliament mandate. In addition to his work as a civil servant, a focus of his work is numerous lectures and seminars on the Slovenian legal language and the long-term supervision of the teaching position of Slovenian legal and administrative language at the University of Graz and Slovenian business language at the University of Klagenfurt. The result of many years of work is the German-Slovenian and Slovenian-German dictionary of legal and business language , written together with Ludwig Karničar , as well as the Slovenian legal lexicon (Slovenski pravni leksikon), written with two co-authors.
