Paul Barth (composer)
Paul Barth , also Paul Barth-Planitz , (born May 16, 1897 in Planitz ; † January 3, 1957 in Jocketa ) was a German composer and university professor .
Life
He came from the then still independent town of Planitz near Zwickau , where he was born in 1897. After attending school, Paul Barth went to the teachers' seminar and received training as a primary school teacher. As such, he worked in his place of birth, where he also directed the men's and women's choirs at the same time. For political reasons he was transferred to Plauen as a teacher after the National Socialists ' seizure of power .
After the Second World War he worked as a freelance composer. In 1949 he became a member of the artistic council of the Deutsche Volksbühne and in 1953 lecturer at the German University for Physical Culture in Leipzig .

As a composer he created several songs in choral setting, for example girls' and autumn songs. He set Kurt Arnold Findeisen's work Christmas at the Toy Makers to music (in the Ore Mountains ). Among other things, his Wanderer an den Tod ( Wanderer to Death ), written in 1947 (for a voice and piano), became famous.
