Paul Berger (pastor)

Paul Berger (born October 3, 1920 in Ostermundigen , † April 23, 2004 in Ortschwaben , municipality of Meikirch ) was a Swiss pastor for the homeless.

As a civil servant in the Federal Military Department , he also trained as a social worker , completed a special pastoral course at the University of Bern from 1960 and entered church service at the age of 44. He was first a pastor in Eggiwil and in Grossaffoltern and later a pastor in the prison in Witzwil and co-founder of several drug therapy facilities. These include a. the Aebihus in Brüttelen and the dormitory for those released from prison, Haus Felsenau .

In 1979 he became head of the office for drug issues of the Evangelical Reformed Church in the canton of Bern . Even after his retirement he was still committed to helping marginalized people, including a. In 1987 he founded the Seelsorgetaxi Bern association .

He was in 1985 as the weak, ... advocate for all self-righteousness of prisoners and enemy companion and support the honorary doctorate awarded the Faculty of Theology of the University of Bern and in 1992 the Medal of Burger Council of the city of Bern .
