Paul Gerhard Buchloh (born March 4, 1922 in Barmen ; † May 6, 1986 in Kiel ) was a German English and Americanist .

Live and act

Paul Gerhard Buchloh was born on March 4, 1922 in Barmen (today a district of Wuppertal). After attending school in Barmen and Düsseldorf , he passed the Abitur examination in 1940. Military service and imprisonment followed from 1940 to 1946. From 1946 to 1951 he studied English , Romance studies and history at the University of Cologne . After receiving his doctorate in 1951, he was a research assistant in Cologne until 1959 and then a private lecturer in English and American studies here for a year . From 1960 to 1962 he was an associate professor at the English Department at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel ; From 1961 to 1962 he was a substitute professor in Berlin and from 1962 to 1986 he was a full professor of English and American studies at the University of Kiel . From 1972 to 1973 he also held the post of rector of this university.
