Paul H. Reistrup

Paul H. Reistrup (* 1933 in Sioux City , Iowa ) is an American manager and economic consultant in the railroad industry . From 1975 to 1978 he was the second president of the state-run rail company Amtrak .

Life

Paul Reistrup graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1950 and studied at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering in 1954 . From 1959 he worked at Baltimore and Ohio Railroad as an Assistant Division Engineer . From 1961 to 1963 he was General Yardmaster , Trainmaster and Superintendent Car Utilization and Distribution (wagon logistics). In 1964 he became director of the passenger transport department of B&O and C&O and in 1966 assistant to the Vice President Executive Department . The following year he moved to the Illinois Central Railroad and was vice president of passenger transportation. From 1970 to 1975 he worked as Senior Vice President Traffic . In 1975, Reistrup was named President and CEO of the state-run rail company Amtrak. During his tenure, he initiated a modernization program for the passenger train cars. This had become necessary in order to reduce the high failure rate of the outdated wagons. New acquisitions of vehicles were not possible because of the urgent need and the unclear financing. After his contract expired in 1978, Reistrup moved to RL Banks & Associates, a management consultant specializing in the transport industry, as Vice President . In 1988 he went back actively to the railway sector and became President of the Monogahela Railway . From 1992 to 1994 he was General Manager of the Railroad Development Corporation and then Vice President of the infrastructure construction company Parsons Brinckerhoff .

In 1997 he became Vice President Passenger Integration at CSX Transportation . His tasks included the coordination and integration of the various passenger transport companies in the CSX route network, which was necessary as part of the takeover of Conrail . As of December 31, 2002, he left CSX. Reistrup works today as a management consultant in the railway sector, and is also a member of several associations. In 1998 he received the W. Graham Claytor Award from Railway Age magazine for his efforts in North American rail passenger transport .

Paul H. Reistrup is married and has four children.
