Alexander K. Kummant

Alexander K. Kummant (* 1962 ) is an American manager. He was President and CEO of the state-owned rail company Amtrak from September 2006 to November 2008 .

Life

At the age of 18, Alexander Kummant worked for the Lake Terminal Railroad at the US Steel works in Lorain, Ohio, on a track construction brigade.

In 1982, he graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He then began working as an engineer for the Standard Oil Company. In 1986 he was at the Carnegie Mellon University for master doctorate in production engineering and then worked for the Carnegie Group Inc. After his master's degree in business administration from the Stanford University in 1990, he moved to Timken Company and was a senior analyst in the steel department.

In 1992 he went to Emerson Electric . After working in various positions, he was President of the SWECO Department from 1996 to 1998. From 1998 to 1999, Kummant served as President of the Lightnin and Filtran Division at SPX Corporation .

He then moved to Union Pacific Railroad, where he served as Vice President and General Manager of Industrial Products. From 2001 to 2002 he was Vice President of Premium Operations and responsible for intermodal transport and the distribution network of automotive companies. From 2002 to 2003, Kummant worked as Regional Vice President and was responsible for the Central Region with 12,875 kilometers of track and 6,000 employees.

In 2004 Kummant was President of the American branch of the German vehicle manufacturer BOMAG and in 2005 Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of the branch of the Japanese mechanical engineering group Komatsu . He then worked for Invensys Controls in 2006 as Vice President and General Manager. He joined Amtrak on September 12, 2006 and became President and CEO. During his tenure, he checked all trade union agreements and concluded new agreements. On November 14, 2008, he resigned from this post after the differences between Kummant and the Supervisory Board became irreconcilable.

After leaving Amtrak, he was Senior Vice President of Strategy and Planning at Spirit AeroSystems . From 2012 to 2017 he was responsible for the route network at the Australian Aurizon Holdings Limited , a freight railway company.

Alexander Kummant is married to a manager from the railway industry.
