Paul Hachenberg

Paul Hachenberg (born April 16 or 17, 1642 in Alpen ; † December 27, 1680 in Heidelberg ) was a German legal scholar , historian and politician .

Life

Hachenberg was the son of Pastor Paul Hachenberg. He studied before 1661 and, in addition to his master's degree in philosophy, also obtained a doctorate in law . However, it is not known when he obtained it. From 1668 on he was employed as the successor to Samuel Pufendorf prince educator for the later Elector Karl II of the Palatinate . In 1671 he also received a position as full professor at the Philosophical Faculty of Heidelberg University . In 1674 and 1678 he was dean of the philosophical faculty, in 1675 rector of the university.

In 1680, Hachenberg became a Privy Councilor and leading minister to Charles II. Hachenberg was Charles' favorite teacher and confidante. He had previously accompanied him on a trip to England. Hachenberg died unexpectedly in December 1680 in office.

He was married to Esther Catharina Mieg (* 1651), the sister of the theologian Johann Friedrich Mieg the Elder .
