Paul Jaromar Wendt

Paul Jaromar Wendt , also Paul Wendt , (born May 21, 1840 in Frankfurt (Oder) , † March 1, 1919 in Einbeck ) was a German businessman and writer. He published plays related to the history of Pomerania .

Life

Wendt was born in Frankfurt (Oder) as the son of a businessman; his ancestors came from Rügen . In 1844 the family moved to Stettin , where he attended the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Realgymnasium. From 1857 he did a commercial apprenticeship. He did his military service as a one-year volunteer with the Colberg Grenadier Regiment "Graf Gneisenau" (2nd Pomeranian) No. 9 . This was followed by stays with merchants in London , Bordeaux and Berlin .

In 1870, Wendt joined his father's business in Stettin. In 1870/1871 he took part in the Franco-German War as rendant of a field hospital.

In 1899 Wendt moved to Berlin , in 1908 to a Masonic retirement home in Einbeck , where he died in 1919.

Wendt was married to Marie Arndt († 1872), a relative of the famous writer and historian Ernst Moritz Arndt ; the marriage remained childless.

Wendt mainly published plays related to the history of Pomerania . His first work was "Colberg 1807 or: Heldensinn und Bürgerertreue", a "patriotic play" in 5 acts about the siege of Kolberg in 1807 . The play was published in 1862 and premiered in the Szczecin City Theater in 1868 . "Sidonia von Borck", a tragedy in 5 acts, deals with the fate of Sidonia von Borcke , who was sentenced to death as a witch and executed in Stettin in 1620.
