Paul Kaufmann (politician, 1925)

Paul Kaufmann (born August 20, 1925 in Graz ; † January 17, 2015 in Stadl-Predlitz ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and writer. From 1971 to 1979 he was a member of the Austrian National Council , from 1981 to 1982 a member of the Federal Council and in 1983 he was again a member of the National Council.

Life

Kaufmann attended elementary and middle school and graduated in 1943. He had been a member of the Hitler Youth since March 13, 1938 and applied for membership of the NSDAP in January 1943 , which took place on April 20, 1943. Paul Kaufmann was assigned membership number 9,513,491. In the same year he was drafted into the German Wehrmacht and did two years of military service. From 1945 to 1949 he studied folklore, German and philosophy at the University of Graz and graduated in 1949 with the academic degree Dr. phil. from. As a result, he worked between 1949 and 1951 for the publishers Styria in Graz and Otto Müller in Salzburg and then switched to the Northwest German Broadcasting Company in Hamburg . He later became press officer for ÖVP Styria and from 1956 editor for domestic policy at the Südost Tagespost until he moved to the weekly newspaper Sonntagspost as editor-in-chief in 1963 .

Kaufmann also worked as a writer and was Secretary General of the Styrian Autumn Festival from 1968 to 1990 . Kaufmann represented the ÖVP in the National Council between November 4, 1971 and June 4, 1979, was then a member of the Federal Council from January 1, 1981 to December 31, 1982, and belonged again between January 2, 1983 and May 18, 1983 the National Council.

Kaufmann died on January 17, 2015 at the age of 89.
