Paul L. Maier

Paul Luther Maier (born May 31, 1930 ) is an American historian .

Live and act

Maier is the son of the evangelical theologian Walter A. Maier (1893–1950).

Following his school days, Maier studied at Harvard University and later switched to Concordia Seminary in Clayton , Missouri . His student achievements were honored with a Fulbright scholarship , with which he was able to study at the universities of Heidelberg and Basel for some time . In Basel he was a. a. Student of Karl Barth and Oscar Cullmann . He was able to successfully complete his studies in 1957 ( summa cum laude ) with a doctorate .

The main focus of his work was the Greek and Roman antiquity . But Maier also published some things on early Christianity and the Reformation . He also wrote several historical novels and books for young people . His articles can also be found regularly in magazines such as Archiv für Reformationsgeschichte , Christian Century , Harvard Theological Review or Hermes .
