Paul Langenscheidt

Paul Langenscheidt ( pseudonym : Erwin Rex , born November 25, 1860 in Berlin ; † September 30, 1925 there ) was a German publisher and writer .

Life

Paul Langenscheidt was a son of the publisher Gustav Langenscheidt . Paul Langenscheidt completed his education at the Royal Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Berlin and at high schools in Neuwied and Münster in Westphalia . Then studied it modern languages at the universities in Berlin , Münster and London . From 1881 to 1882 he did his military service as a one-year volunteer ; later he rose as a reserve officer to Rittmeister . In 1884 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Tübingen . In the same year he became an employee of his father's publishing house . In 1888 he founded his own publishing house, Dr. Paul Langenscheidt, whose program included commercial and criminal specialist literature, but also fiction .

In addition to his publishing activities, Paul Langenscheidt wrote literary texts. His work includes novels , short stories and plays . He also translated from French and from 1908 worked as the editor of the Encyclopedia of Modern Criminology . Langenscheidt achieved significant sales successes with some of his narrative works: The novel poor little Eva , published in 1907, had a circulation of 100,000 copies by 1922 , of the novel Ich hab 'dich lieb , published in 1909, over 80,000 copies were made by 1930, and of Du bist mein (1911 ) sold over 70,000 copies by 1928.

Paul Langenscheidt was a member of the Guilelmia country team .
