Paul Müller (born May 19, 1895 in Henau ; † June 6, 1966 in St. Gallen , entitled to live in Henau) was a Swiss politician ( KVP / CVP ).

biography

Paul Müller was born on May 19, 1895 in Henau as the son of the farmer , hand ticker and councilor Jacob Anton Müller and Barbara, née Wirth. He completed a banking apprenticeship. Subsequently he worked as a community official from 1916 to 1942, including from 1925 as a community treasurer, in Henau and as a farmer. In addition, he completed further training to become a legal agent in St. Gallen .

Paul Müller married Maria Anna, the daughter of the landlord Johann Anton Geisser, in his first marriage in 1921, and Mathilde, the sister of the liberal Alfred Schaller , in 1959 . He died on June 6, 1966, just after he had turned 71, in St. Gallen.

Political career

Paul Müller's political career, a member of the Conservative Christian Social Party, began in 1921 with his election to the St. Gallen Cantonal Council , where he was a member until 1942. He also served as a part-time cantonal judge from 1933 to 1942. Immediately afterwards, he was the first of his party to be a member of the government council of the canton of St. Gallen, which he chaired between 1946 and 1947 and 1953 and 1954 as Landammann .

As head of the Department of the Interior, Paul Müller was responsible, among other things, for a progressive welfare law that brought about the transition from the home to the place of residence principle.
