Paul Mauch

Paul Mauch ( May 8, 1897 - July 15, 1924 ) was a German football player.

Mauch initially belonged to FC Viktoria Feuerbach from 1915 to 1921 , which was renamed on October 1, 1919 with the merger in SV 1898 Feuerbach, before he was signed by VfB Stuttgart for the 1921/22 season .

In the South German Football Federation discharged championships he competed in the District Württemberg / Baden one season for the "Reds" and two seasons - because of football players - for the "Blue" ; with them he immediately won the county championship, which he won again the following season. In the final of the district championship in 1923 they were defeated by 1. FC Pforzheim after a two-way leg in the overall result with 1: 4. In the final round of the South German Championship in 1924 , he and his team took third place behind 1. FC Nürnberg and SpVgg Fürth .

He played his last big game on June 29, 1924 on Phönix-Platz in Karlsruhe against the German champions from Nuremberg ; the game for the South German Cup was lost 0-1.

Selection / national team

As a player in the selection team of the South German Football Association , he took part in the competition for the national cup in the 1922/23 and 1923/24 seasons. In the 3-0 semi-final victory on November 11, 1923 in Leipzig against the team of the Association of Central German Ball Game Clubs , he was in goal. In the 4-2 victory in the final on February 17, 1924 against the national team of the North German Football Association , he had to let Heinrich Stuhlfauth go first.

He played his only international match for the senior national team - due to the prevention of the two dominating goalkeepers Heinrich Stuhlfauth and Theodor Lohrmann - on April 23, 1922 in Vienna in a 2-0 victory over the national team of Austria . With him - impressing with his catch safety and spectacular flight inserts - a DFB team won for the first time against an Austrian national team. With the surprising success in front of 70,000 spectators, he was certified a great performance on the side of captain Adolf Jäger and center runner Hans Kalb . At the same time, he was the first national player for VfB Stuttgart.
