Cardinal Paul-Marie-André Richaud (born April 16, 1887 in Versailles , France , † February 5, 1968 in Bordeaux ) was a French clergyman and archbishop of Bordeaux .

Life

Paul Richaud studied from 1909 Catholic theology and philosophy at Versailles and received there on 28 June 1913, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then completed further studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University from 1913 to 1915 . From 1915 he worked as a pastor in the diocese of Versailles and in 1931 was appointed vicar general to head the diocesan administration. On December 19, 1933, Pope Pius XI appointed him . to titular bishop of Irenopolis in Isauria and auxiliary bishop in Versailles . The episcopal ordination donated to him the Versailles Bishop Benjamin-Octave Roland-Gosselin in the cathedral Saint-Louis in Versailles; Co- consecrators were Pierre Gerlier , Bishop of Tarbes , and Georges Louis , Bishop of Périgueux . On July 27, 1938 Pius XI appointed him. to the Bishop of Laval .

Pope Pius XII Richaud appointed Archbishop of Bordeaux on February 10, 1950. On December 15, 1958, Pope John XXIII. in his first consistory as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santi Quirico e Giulitta in the college of cardinals . Richaud participated in the conclave of 1963 that Pope Paul VI. chose. He was also a participant in the Second Vatican Council .

Cardinal Richaud died at the age of 80 in Bordeaux and was buried there in the Saint-André cathedral.
