Paul Seuthe (born May 20, 1909 in Hagen ; † November 10, 1997 in Werdohl ) was a German painter and architect. His subject was mainly pictures of the Sauerland . In his late creative period he also made abstract works.

Life

Seuthe met Christian Rohlfs in his studio in 1923 as a bricklayer's apprentice in the former Folkwang Museum in Hagen and recognized, by his own admission, "how easy it was to paint". Then he started painting himself. From 1928 to 1930 he completed his studies at the building trade school in Höxter , moved to Werdohl in 1930 and worked there as a civil engineer. In 1951 he founded a film club in Werdohl and took part in the Oberhausen Short Film Festival for many years . As a freelance architect and civil engineer, he was involved in the construction of numerous factory and residential buildings as well as public buildings such as the Pestalozzi School and the nurses' home in Werdohl in the 1950s. The city of Werdohl commissioned him in 1957 to create a memorial that stands on Grimmeplatz. In a documentary on the Second German Television, Seuthe was honored in the 1961 program Prisma des Westens in the documentary report Die Stillen im Lande . By 1973 he largely ceased his artistic activity and was active as an architect.
