Life

Paul Theodor Sommerhoff grew up in Westphalia. After studying electrical engineering from 1948 to 1951, he worked for the Federal Border Police for five years . In 1958 he was taken over by the Federal Air Force . From 1963 to 1965 Sommerhoff graduated from the Bundeswehr leadership academy . After various uses summer Hoff was from 1 October 1968 to 31 March 1970 as a lieutenant colonel 33 of the commander of the II. Department of Signal Regiment operational command area 2 and from 1 October 1978 to 30 September 1981 as a Major General Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff of the Air Force in Ministry of Defense . His last assignment was as assistant inspector of the Luftwaffe with the rank of lieutenant general.

Summer court affair

Summer Hoff, in 1986, chief of the Air Force Office , went on 16 October by the Guard of Defense. The guard on duty, a flagjunker , stopped him for a special check and asked Sommerhoff to open the briefcase. According to the person on watch, Sommerhoff pulled out a (apparently private) Colt and held the gun to his head with the words: "What would you do if I pulled the trigger now?" Then a staff sergeant on duty drew his (official) pistol. Then Sommerhoff dropped the Colt. After that, he insisted on unsportsmanlike: "You will still hear from me." After the Fahnenjunker had properly submitted a written report about the incident, he was invited to a so-called mediation meeting with the Deputy Air Force Inspector Hans-Heinz Feldhoff in order to defuse his statement. Feldhoff told him that Sommerhoff had denied the allegations and, according to his testimony, had only shown the guard his Colt. After one night the flagjunker on watch declared that he would not accept this variant. After State Secretary Günter Ermisch had informed Defense Minister Manfred Wörner , Wörner ordered: "Please check whether the weapon was loaded and please assess it under disciplinary law." However, this was not done. Instead, the case was covered up.
