history

Paul Sormani started his business at 7, Saint Nicolas Cemetery in 1847 , then at 114, Rue du Temple in 1854 , and finally at 10, Rue Charlot in Paris in 1867 . Empress Eugénie , the wife of Napoleon III. , made the house successful by decorating its palaces with the creations of Paul Sormani.

When Paul Sormani died in 1877, his son Paul-Charles (1848–1926) and his mother Ursule Marie Philippine, née Bouvaist, resumed work under the name "Sormani Veuve Paul et Fils" from 1878. The carpenter and ornamentalist Édouard Lièvre worked with the Sormani House to create some pieces of furniture, some of which were made after Paul Sormani's death.

In 1914, his son Paul-Charles Sormani founded a boutique with Thiebault Frères on Boulevard Haussmann 134 in Paris. Maison Thiebault-Sormani will exhibit furniture in particular at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Art in Paris in 1925: this shop produced high quality pieces in the style of Louis XV and Louis XVI . This lasted until 1934 when it closed.

In addition to the numerous examples of furniture from the French 18th century and the manufacture of furniture that was used during the reign of Louis XV. And Louis XVI. were directly inspired by fashion styles, Sormani manufactures parquet clocks and many tableware items such as jewelry boxes, bronze inkwells, writing cases or liqueur boxes, etc. Some desk models were perfect replicas of those of Jean-Pierre Tahan (dimensions, shapes, inlays , etc.).
