Paul Vogt (doctor)

Paul Robert Vogt (born January 10, 1957 in Lachen SZ ) is a Swiss surgeon and university professor.

Career

After graduating from high school , Vogt studied at the University of Zurich , where he passed his state examination in 1983. In 1992 he completed his specialist training (general surgery) and dissertation there. Additional specialist titles for cardiac surgery (1994) and special vascular surgery (2003) followed.

From 1995 to 1996 Vogt was senior physician for cardiovascular surgery at the University Hospital Zurich. After a few years as a part-time lecturer in cardiovascular surgery, he received his habilitation in 1997 as a private lecturer at the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich. In the same year he was appointed Senior Physician and Deputy Clinic Director (Marko Turina). In 1999 Vogt became a board member of the Swiss Society for Cardiovascular Surgery.

In 2000, Vogt was appointed Clinical Director and Chief Physician at the Giessen University Hospital . In the next few years guest professorships at various universities abroad followed (including the medical universities in Wuhan , Harbin and Hebei University ).

In 2006 Vogt founded EurAsia Heart - A Swiss Medical Foundation , a voluntary Swiss foundation based in Zurich, which provides surgical support in Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. At the same time he became an attending physician at the Hirslanden Clinics in Zurich. In 2015 the Ukrainian Center for Pediatric and Adult Cardiac Surgery in Kiev appointed him Deputy Chief Physician.

Vogt has been a member of Swiss Surgery , a competence network for surgery and cancer treatment, since 2019 .

In 2020 he accuses western countries of failing to begin the Covid 19 pandemic ; He complains that politicians, the media and the majority of Europeans do not distinguish between ideology, politics and medicine. The current corona pandemic would have been announced at least eight times since 2003, and the West's arrogance towards China would have ensured that suitable measures were not taken in good time to deal with the infections.

Honors and awards (selection)

In 2011 Vogt received an honorary doctorate from the Medical University in St. Petersburg , where he has also been a professor and faculty member since 2015.

In 1998 he received the Merck-Sharp-Dohme Prize for his achievements in experimental research on infectious diseases.

The First Pavlov State Medical University of St. Petersburg awarded Vogt the Kolesov Medal in 2018. He is the first foreigner to receive this award.
