Paul Volkmann (born February 23, 1899 in Jecha ; † August 7, 1969 in Sondershausen) was a German miner and politician ( SED ). From 1946 to 1950 he was a member of the Thuringian state parliament .

Life

Volkmann was the son of a miner. After attending primary school, he first completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. Volkmann became a member of the KPD's founding year in 1919, and at times he was KPD sub-district leader in Sondershausen . In the 1920s, Volkmann earned his living as a miner at the Glückauf potash plant in the Jecha district of Sondershausen. In 1933 he was elected chairman of the works council of the Kailwerk. After the National Socialists came to power, Volkmann was arrested on March 27, 1933 and held in so-called protective custody in the Nohra camp until April 16, 1933 . Because of his illegal party activities for the KPD, he was arrested again on November 4, 1934 and imprisoned in the Bad Sulza concentration camp until April 11, 1935 . Volkmann was then placed in custody in Kassel until June 5, 1935 . In Kassel he was sentenced to a total of 24 months in prison by the higher regional court there, which he served in the Kassel-Wehlheiden prison. It is not known where Volkmann stayed after serving his sentence, but he was convicted again in March 1944 by a special court in Kassel for preparing for high treason. After the end of the war, Volkmann returned to his old home and his old place of work. The experienced communist, who was also recognized by the Soviet authorities through his imprisonment, was deployed in 1946 as the central sequester of the Wintershall AG operations on the territory of the Soviet occupation zone in order to convert them into public property. However, this did not succeed at first because these companies were combined in one SAG . Through the union of the KPD and SPD meanwhile a member of the SED, Volkmann was sent by the SED as a member of the advisory state assembly of Thuringia because of his professional function. In the first state parliament elections on October 20, 1946, Volkmann also ran for the SED and represented it as a member of the Thuringian state parliament in the first electoral period up to October 1950. In the Sondershausen-Jecha potash plant itself, Volkmann soon acted again as a works council, with effect from 17. December 1947 he was appointed trustee and works manager of shafts III and IV of the Glückauf potash works. In 1952 he took over the VEB Kaliwerk Bartensleben in the Haldensleben district as plant manager. However, Volkmann only carried out this management activity for a few years, as he was retired in 1956 at the latest.
