Paul Weiland (born September 14, 1949 in Rottenmann ; † August 16, 2015 in St. Pölten ) was an Austrian Evangelical Lutheran theologian . From 1998 until his death in 2015 he was Superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendent of Lower Austria .

Life

Paul Weiland grew up in Stadtschlaining . He studied from 1969 to 1975 at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna and then worked for two years as a religion teacher at general secondary schools in Vienna . Weiland completed his vicariate from 1977 to 1979 in the Luther Church in Vienna's 18th district of Währing and in the office for radio and television. In 1979 he was ordained to the ministry .

Then Paul Weiland was press pastor of the Evangelical Church A. u. HB in Austria and as managing director of the Evangelical Press Association. On September 1, 1998, he took up his post as the successor to Hellmut Santer as the sixth superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendent of Lower Austria, based in St. Pölten . At that time he was also a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church AB and the General Synod of the Evangelical Church A. u. HB Paul Weiland was also President of the Austrian Bible Society , Chairman of the Evangelical Federation in Austria and advisor to the Lutheran World Federation on communication issues.

In 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2013 he was a member of the jury for the award of the European Peace Rose Prize .

His successor as superintendent is Lars Müller-Marienburg .
