Paul von Bartenwerffer

Paul Gustav Richard Michael von Bartenwerffer (born September 29, 1867 in Berlin , † September 18, 1928 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general in the First World War .

Life

He was the son of the later Prussian general of the infantry Conrad von Bartenwerffer (1835-1919) and his wife Marie, née Klessel (* 1846). His father was elevated to the hereditary Prussian nobility on April 25, 1885 by Wilhelm I. Gustav von Bartenwerffer (1872–1947), who later became a member of the Reichstag, was his younger brother.

After finishing school, Bartenwerffer joined the Prussian Army and trained as an officer there. In 1910 he was commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 1st Guards Regiment on foot . From 1912 Bartenwerffer was active in the General Staff in Berlin , most recently as head of department. It was here that he was promoted to colonel on April 22, 1914 . With the outbreak of World War I and the mobilization , he was appointed Chief of Staff of the newly established Guard Reserve Corps on August 2, 1914 . He held this position until February 10, 1915. From spring 1916 to October 1918 he was chief of the political department at the chief of the general staff of the field army and was promoted to major general in this position.

In addition, he was awarded an honorary doctorate .
