Paulo José Ribeiro Moita de Macedo (born July 14, 1963 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese manager and politician. From June 21, 2011 to October 30, 2015, he held the post of Minister of Health in the cabinet of Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho .

Life

Paulo Macedo, son of the painter Moita Macedo , completed his studies in business management at the University of Economics and Management (ISEG) of the Technical University of Lisbon with a licenciatura .

After completing his studies, he continued to work as a research assistant at his educational establishment, at the same time he began his professional career in the financial advisory department of the audit firm Arthur Andersen . Later he also taught at the ISEG.

Macedo held numerous positions on boards of various companies. Among other things, he was deputy chairman of the executive board of the Portuguese bank Banco Comercial Português , but also had other tasks in this company. He also sat on the board of directors of the Euronext stock exchange company.

In 2004 the then Portuguese Prime Minister José Manuel Barroso appointed him head of the Portuguese tax investigation authority ( Direcção-Geral dos Impostos ). He held this office until 2007.

On February 24, 2006, Aníbal Cavaco Silva , President of Portugal, elevated him to the status of Grand Officer ( Grande-Official ) of the Order of the Infante Dom Henrique .

On 17 June 2011, the previously suggested in the general election victorious Pedro Passos Coelho Paulo Macedo prior to his Cabinet as a non-party of four ministers. President Cavaco Silva then appointed him Minister of Health on June 21, 2011.

Since February 2, 2017, he has been Chief Executive Officer (Presidente da Comissão Executiva) and Vice-Chairman (Vice-Presidente do Conselho de Administração) of the Portuguese bank Caixa Geral de Depósitos, SA (CGD).

Private

Macedo is married and has two children.
