Rui machete
Rui Manuel Parente Chancerelle Machete , (born April 7, 1940 in Setúbal ) is a Portuguese politician and lawyer. He was Minister of State and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Portugal from 2013 to 2015 . Previously he was Deputy Prime Minister, Defense, Justice and Social Affairs Minister of Portugal.
biography
Rui Machete graduated from Lisbon University with a law degree . He took postgraduate studies in economics and political science in 1963. He received an award from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for history and law in 1960 and for economics and political science in 1962. He has been a lawyer since 1964.
He has taught constitutional law, administrative law and political science in the Law Faculty of the University of Lisbon. He is a professor at the Catholic University of Portugal in Lisbon , where he teaches administrative law and public administration .
He began his political career in 1975 as State Secretary for Emigration. From January 2, 1976 to July 23, 1979 he was Portugal's Minister of Social Affairs. His predecessor in this office was Jorge Borges Sá and his successor was Armando Bacelar .
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Portugal from 1981 to 1983 . He was then from June 9, 1983 to February 15, 1985 Minister of Justice and from February 15, 1985 to November 6, 1985 Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense. Between 1976 and 1980 and from 1985 to 1995 he was a member of the Portuguese Parliament , the Assembleia da República .
On July 24, 2013, Rui Machete was appointed Foreign Minister to succeed Paulo Portas (CDS-PP) in the Passos Coelho cabinet . In this position he was replaced on November 26, 2015 by Augusto Santos Silva .
He is a member of the PSD .
