action

10 year old Paul has leukemia . Therefore, he has to go to the hospital frequently. At the moment his illness is relatively stable. Paul's friend, who also had leukemia, died of the disease. And Paul’s blood values also deteriorate. Therefore Paul is supposed to go back to the hospital for a longer time. His mother is accordingly concerned. Paul's father left the family.

Paul is not at all excited about going to the hospital. He feels healthy. And so he runs away. He's hiding in his father's truck . This is on the way to Spain with a scheduled freight. Only in France does his father notice that Paul is in his truck. He gets in touch with Paul's mother and wants to send Paul back by train. But finally he changes his mind, and Paul is allowed to go on with him.

Paul is now having a few nice days with his father, and they both grow closer. Paul's father finally admits that one of the reasons he left the family was because he could no longer see Paul's suffering. After making this admission, Paul understands that adults are not always perfect people. That doesn't change anything about his love for his father. And finally his father keeps a promise - and brings Paul to the sea.

Paul is getting worse and worse. And so he can no longer hide his condition from his father. He takes Paul to a hospital in France. Paul can be helped there. His condition stabilizes again. While Paul is being flown back to Germany by helicopter, Paul's father is on his way again.

criticism

"An extremely likeable children's film that does not fully exploit the potential of the story in terms of staging and acting, but is able to bring young viewers closer to a serious topic without false sentimentality." Was the verdict of the lexicon of international films .
