The family Pauw or Pauw van Wieldrecht belonged to the leading Dutch people in the Golden Century, together with the Orange governors and the regent families De Witt , De Graeff and Bicker . In contrast to the other ruling families, however, the Pauw were increasingly on the side of the Orange.

history

The progenitor of the noble family is Claes de Grebber, who in 1306 was the baljuw van Waterland ( Vogt of the Waterlandes ). Subsequently, various branches of the family, as city rulers of Gouda , Delft and Amsterdam, as well as politicians working in high state offices, had a major influence on the political and social climate in the Netherlands. Various family members carried the noble title of knight , in the 19th century the family was again accepted into the new Dutch nobility with the title of knight .
