Pavel Novotný (born September 14, 1973 in Kroměříž ) is a former Czech football player .

Career

Novotný started at Spartak Hulín, and when he was 15 he moved to TJ Gottwaldov .

In 1991 Slavia Prague signed him , for which he made his debut in the 1st Czechoslovak League. From 1992 to 1993 he played for Union Cheb as part of his military service . He then played again for Slavia, until 1997 he made 102 games, the defender scored 17 times.

In 1996 he was nominated for the European Championship by coach Dušan Uhrin without having made a single international match . There he made his debut in the Czech national dress in the semifinals against France .

The 1.95 meter tall Novotný, also called Čáp (Czech for "stork") because of his long legs , was signed by VfL Wolfsburg in 1997 , for whom he played 15 Bundesliga games . But he did not get beyond the role of a reservist. He moved to Sparta Prague . In the 1998/99 season he came into excellent form, only missed three season games and was used a second time in the Czech national team . However, the 20 minutes in the 1-0 win in Brussels against Belgium remained his last in the national selection. In his second season at Sparta, he only played twelve games.

In 2001 he went back to Sparta's biggest rival Slavia Prague , where he could no longer gain a foothold, mainly due to injury problems. In two seasons he only played seven games. In 2003 he was loaned to the second division Bohemians Prague , but he only made five games in 2003/04. In 2004/05, meanwhile without a contract, he was still training with Bohemians, but injuries prevented him from playing any more. During that season he also worked as an assistant coach at Bohemians. Only in 2005 did his health allow more, he moved to Xaverov Horní Počernice and played a few more games there. In the summer of 2006 Novotný ended his career.
