Paw is an American alternative rock band from Lawrence , Kansas , formed in 1990. The founding members are Mark Hennessy (vocals), Grant Fitch (guitar), Charles Bryan (bass) and Peter Fitch (drums). They released three studio albums - Dragline , Death to Traitors and Home Is a Strange Place - and a collection of B-side songs and outtakes Keep the Last Bullet for Yourself before they split up in 2000. Hennessy, Grant Fitch and later bassist Jason Magierowski reunited in 2008 for some appearances.

history

Paw was founded in 1990 in Lawrence near Kill Creek and Stick. The music from this early period can be characterized as aggressive rock with a melodic undertone or as Southern rock as Mark Hennessy himself described it in an interview with MTV . They have been called the next nirvana by many record labels and several record deals have been offered to Paw. The band ultimately signed a contract with A&M Records for three albums during the grunge wave of the 1990s. So they released their first album Dragline in 1993 . The best-known singles on the album are Lolita , Jessie , Couldn't Know , The Bridge and Sleeping Bag , which were often played on American radio stations and Headbanger's Ball , MTV's hard rock / heavy metal show. Paw toured England in 1993 as the support act for Tool and Headswim (months after Tool supported Rage Against the Machine ) in an effort to promote the band outside of America. The band recorded a music session for BBC Radio 1 's rock show in 1994 , which they also played at the Reading Festival . Her songs Jessie , Pansy and The Bridge were used in the 3DO , PC , Sega Saturn and PlayStation versions of the Road Rash game.

In 1995 the band released their second studio album Death to Traitors . In this album, more instrumental and country elements were added, which made the otherwise heavier music a little softer. Paw toured Europe in early 1995. Although the album received good reviews from the press, sales were poor due to the label's poor promotion ( A&M Records ). Paw left A&M before the contract was fulfilled.

In 1998, Grant Fitch and Peter Fitch formed the band Palomar and released the album World Without Horses . Paw was still playing together during this period and released a collection of B-side songs and outtakes Keep the Last Bullet for Yourself on their own label, Outlaw Records .

In 2000, founding members Hennessy and Fitch signed a contract with Koch Records and released their album Home Is a Strange Place that same year. More blues elements have been incorporated into the new album .

In 2008, Hennessy and Fitch reunited and played at the Wakarusa Festival in Clinton Lake, Kansas on June 6, 2008. Her playlist included the songs Couldn't Know , Home Is a Strange Place , Death to Traitors , Sunflower , Hope I Die Tonight and Dragline . The band played their first official gig after the re-establishment in Lawrence on October 4, 2008 at The Bottleneck.
