Pavel Pavlenko ( Russian Павел Павлович Павленко * 20th September 1902 in Kiev , Russian Empire ; † 9. March 1993 in Moscow , Russia ) was a Soviet theater - and film - actor .

Life and accomplishments

Pavel Pavlenko was the son of an operetta actor . The year after his birth, the family moved from Kiev to Moscow. From 1912 to 1920 he attended the 11th Moscow high school (from 1918: 109th Soviet workers' school ) and completed theater training at the same time. Pavlenko's acting career began in 1920 at the Moscow Ukrainian Theater and from 1922 to 1923, alongside with the Podiwa-14 theater company. From 1924 to 1960 Pavlenko appeared for several well-known houses, including the Moscow Theater for Children (1924–1927), the Theater of the Revolution (1930–1932) and the Mossoviet Theater (1944–1947). Between 1927 and 1930 he worked in Kharkiv and from 1947 to 1948 in Moscow as an operetta actor .

Pawlenko's film career began in the mid-1940s with small roles in Soja and Glinka , but without being named in the credits . In 1952 he gave his first listed role in Lied der Heimat . In the last two works mentioned, which are based on the life of the composer Michail Glinka , Pavlenko embodied the author Faddei Bulgarin . Another historical role followed immediately afterwards with Tsar Pawel I in ships storming bastions . His filmography also includes several literary adaptations , such as The Duel after Alexander Kuprin , The Captain 's Daughter after Alexander Pushkin , The Karamazov Brothers after Fyodor Dostoyevsky and Много шума из ничего ( Mnogo schuma is nitschego , 1973), an adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing . In the 1960s, Pavlenko also worked three times with Alexander Rou , including as the father of the main female character in Adventure in the Magic Forest . Here and in fire, water and trumpets it was dubbed in the German language versions by Fritz Links .

His cinematic work includes 30 works, including an engagement as a voice actor in the animated film Утренняя музыка ( Utrennjaja musyka , 1974). Awarded the title of Meritorious Artist of the RSFSR in 1954, he died, unnoticed by the public, at the age of 90 in Moscow. He was married to Anna Stepanovna Potapenka, who was four years his junior.
