Yüksel Pazarkaya (born February 24, 1940 in İzmir , Turkey ) is a writer and translator. Pazarkaya is a German citizen and a member of the Turkish and German PEN centers .

Life

After finishing school in Turkey, he moved to Germany in 1958 . After graduating as a chemist in Stuttgart , he began studying German and philosophy and received his doctorate in literature in 1973 . Since then he has been working as a writer. Before that, he was the first ever to initiate German-Turkish theater work in 1961, initially in the Stuttgart studio stage , which he co-founded , and later by founding the first Turkish amateur theater group in Germany. From 1986 he worked as a radio editor at WDR in Cologne .

He has translated works by Orhan Veli , Nâzım Hikmet and Aziz Nesin , among others . In his own writings he also, but not exclusively, deals with the situation of migrant workers and, in particular, discrimination. His extensive output also includes poetry, prose, literature for children and a television series ( Our Neighbors, The Baltas , 1983). As early as 1979, one of his texts was used in Hans A. Guttner's documentary film Almanya Almanya - Germania Germania .

In 2000 he held the Chamisso poetics lectureship at the Technical University of Dresden .

The literary scholar has been working on Gero von Wilpert's Lexicon of World Literature since the second edition . Pazarkaya has also been active in publishing since 2005.
