Peñaflor is a city in Chile . It has 90,201 inhabitants (Census 2017).

geography

Peñaflor is located in central Chile, about 30 km south of Santiago in the southwest of the capital region (XIII Región Metropolitana).

The municipality of Peñaflor also includes the localities of Malloco and Pelvin, and it borders on the municipalities of Padre Hurtado , Talagante and Calera de Tango. In the west of the city, Peñaflor borders on a mountain range upstream of the Andean Cordillera.

Peñaflor was founded on March 5, 1827 as Villa Peñaflor. On August 14, 1890, the Peñaflor commune was established. In 1981 it was renamed the Municipalidad de Peñaflor.

economy

The main branches of Peñaflor's economy are tourism and agriculture. There are various walnut and peach plantations and several private wineries in the vicinity of Peñaflors.

Transport and infrastructure

Peñaflor is connected to the Autopista del Sol motorway, which is the fastest connection between Peñaflor and the center of Santiago de Chile and is used by many commuters every day. The Camino a Melipilla expressway connects Peñaflor not only with the city center of Santiago, but also with the municipalities of Maipú , Cerrillos and Padre Hurtado. The transport company Peñaflors, BUPESA, provides several daily bus connections within the municipality, the province of Talagante, and with various parts of the city of Santiago.

The main artery within Peñaflors is the street "Avenida Vicuña Mackenna", with Talagante it connects the so-called "Camino del Diablo" and the so-called "Camino Malloco".
