history
The area around Talagante was colonized by the Diaguitas culture very early on . They were later followed by the Inca , who controlled the area between Río Maipo and Río Mapocho . The important Inca governor Tala Canta was directly subordinate to the Inca of Cuzco . The German conquistador Bartolomé Flores , to whom the encomienda of lands south of Santiago de Chile had been assigned in the area of influence of the Tala Canta , probably married his daughter, the Kazikin “Elvira”, around 1547 and thus attached the area his family. The Flores family was one of the richest founding families of the colony and tried to attract Franciscans . Flores died in Talagante in 1585, at that time there was a Franciscan convent in San Francisco de El Monte south of the present city.
