Peder Andersen , also called Peder Nordmand (* presumably in Norway ; † May 18, 1694 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish Baroque painter.

Life

It is not known who his parents were, but they probably came from Norway. Little is known about the course of Andersen's artistic training. He was a student of the Norwegian-born painters Michael and Lambert van Haven in the 1660s . In 1668 Andersen traveled with Lambert van Haven first to Venice and the following year to Rome. While Van Haven left Rome at the end of 1670, Andersen stayed there to oversee the paintings commissioned by the king and to continue his studies. More than a hundred oil sketches that were made during this stay can be ascribed to Andersen with high certainty. At the end of 1672 he returned to Copenhagen and was possibly a student of Abraham Wuchtersactive. In 1681 he is mentioned in the royal chamber reports as an employee of the royal court. From 1681 to 1682 he was probably in Holland. In addition to his work as a painter, he was also a kind of art commissioner who bought pictures by Abraham Wuchters or Toussaint Gelton at an auction in 1683 for the court.

In Thieme-Becker is (1907) the assumption was that he had been under the influence of the Dutch school in Denmark, for example as Karl van Mander the Younger called Abraham and Wuchters. He was hired as a painter by the Danish court around 1680 and was appointed court painter by Christian V on March 14, 1683 . His main field of activity was the design of Frederiksborg Castle . But he also makes cardboard boxes that Berent van der Eichen and his brother used as templates for the wallpaper they woven in the Knights' Hall of Rosenborg Castle . Hinrich Krock and Magnus Berg (from 1690) were his students.

Andersen was married twice:

  • January 3, 1685 with Christina Cathrine Schrøder (died January 1692)
  • 1693 with Dorothea Marie Sørensdatter (born around 1670), a daughter of Søren Jensen and Sophie Rothkesdatter Holst.

Andersen was buried at St. Petri Kirke in Copenhagen.
