The Karl scepter ( Pedicularis sceptrum-carolinum ), also Moor King or King Charles lousewort , belongs to the genus lousewort ( Pedicularis ).
description
The perennial herbaceous plant reaches heights of growth between 20 and 100 centimeters. The leaves are pinnately split. The rosette-like basal leaves reach lengths of 30 cm. The flowers stand in a dense, many-flowered cluster . The whitish yellow crown is up to 30 mm long. The upper lip is not split, the lower lip has a reddish border.
Flowering time is from June to August.
The chromosome number of the species is 2n = 32.
Occurrence
The Kalszepter comes from in Central and Northern Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, Japan, Korea, Mongolia and China. The plant species prefers low and intermediate moors. In Germany, the plant can be found almost exclusively in the foothills of the Alps and is strictly protected. In Austria, the plant only occurs in the Edlacher Moor near shoots . The Botanical Garden Munich-Nymphenburg operates an ex-situ conservation breed of the species. It is a national Scheuchzerio-Caricetea class character.
biology
Pedicularis sceptrum-carolinum parasitizes on Carex species. The flowers are slightly protogynous.
Systematics
One can distinguish between two subspecies:
- Pedicularis sceptrum-carolinum subsp. sceptrum-carolinum
- Pedicularis sceptrum-carolinum subsp. pubescens (Bunge) PC Tsoong : It occurs in China.
