Pedral is a red wine variety . The variety comes from the Iberian Peninsula , i.e. from Spain or Portugal . In Portugal, their cultivation is recommended in the Douro and Minho regions . In Spain it is registered in the Galician province of Pontevedra . Small plantings were also found in France and Italy . In Portugal, a planted vineyard area of ​​314 hectares was raised in the 1990s .

The late-ripening and vigorous variety produces wines with a low alcohol content and a beautiful red color. It is therefore mostly used in blends with other varieties and finds its way into the red variant of Vinho Verde .

The Pedral grape variety is also known under the names Alvarinho Tinto, Cainho, Cainho dos Milagres, Cainho Espanhol, Castelão, Padral, Pardal, Pédral Noir, Pedrol, Pégudo and Perna de Perdiz.
